The "Star Wars" star breaks down her emotional reunion with Christensen and how they changed one of Anakin and Ahsoka's big moments.

Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen have a long history together, both in and out of the Star Wars galaxy. Not only did they costar in the 2003 journalism classic Shattered Glass, but the pair have been friends for decades, first meeting as teenagers in a summer acting class. Last fall they had an emotional reunion on Ahsoka, with Dawson starring as the titular warrior Ahsoka Tano and Christensen returning as her onetime Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker.

Speaking to EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Dawson opened up about reuniting — and crossing lightsabers — with her old friend on screen.

"We just had so much fun," Dawson told EW. "I tell you the entire crew made an excuse to be on set those days. It just brought tears to all of our eyes. It was wonderful. I love Hayden. He's such a wonderful man. You know, I got to meet him and get to know him a little bit when we were younger, and I saw a lot of that journey he went through when he became a part of the series."

Dawson added that she was "smiling way too hard" during their scenes together, and she was particularly excited to see Christensen explore new sides of the character he originated way back in 2002's Attack of the Clones. Christensen pops up in the fourth episode of Ahsoka, appearing in the ethereal Force dimension known as the World Between Worlds. There, Ahsoka's former teacher imparts a few more lessons, journeying through their early days in the Clone Wars to his eventual turn to the Dark Side.

"Sith Anakin, we never got to see that," she said. "We only got to see him become Darth [Vader]. We got the seeds of that a little bit in the films, but we didn't get to sit with him for very long in that. So it was nice to see him be in the Clone Wars clothing, all of that stuff."

Christensen appears multiple times throughout Ahsoka: first in the World Between Worlds, later in a hologram training video, and finally as a Force ghost, watching over Ahsoka and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) in the final episode. Dawson explained that she, series creator Dave Filoni, and Lucasfilm executive Carrie Beck wanted to keep Christensen's appearances as impactful as possible — particularly in the scene where Ahsoka fires up an old training hologram of her former master. Instead of resurrecting Anakin as yet another Force ghost, they wanted to try something different.

"We ended up tweaking that and playing with it a little bit," Dawson added. "That moment with him coming out of the World Between Worlds was so significant, so it didn't make sense to necessarily have like another dialogue scene with him — because how could you really build on that in that way? So we transformed that."

She continued: "We sort of shifted it a little bit so she was watching him as a hologram, rather than Force ghost conversation. It also makes that moment in the World Between Worlds more ephemeral, like, What was that? Is she just dreaming? Is she really talking to herself? It's nice to keep that as a question mark."

As for whether we've seen the last of Anakin and Ahsoka? Lucasfilm has yet to officially announce plans for a second season, and Dawson herself is remaining tight-lipped. "I hope we get to," she said. At the very least, she's looking forward to reuniting with her costars soon — even if it's on planet Earth.

"We're supposed to be having a dinner soon of the whole cast," Dawson said, "which will be really nice because I haven't seen everyone. I was very jealous seeing everyone at some of these cons recently, which I wasn't able to be at. So I'm looking forward to seeing everyone."
