After leaving WWE behind, pro wrestler and actress Ronda Rousey is reportedly set to write a new Netflix biopic. Sources close to Deadline have claimed that Rousey will be penning the screenplay based on her two Memoirs, “My Fight Your Fight” and “Our Fight,” which her sister Maria Burns Ortiz co-wrote with her.

While Rousey’s deal with Netflix is reportedly done. Sources have also said however that Chernin Entertainment is in talks to produce the movie for the streaming giant. The company has produced blockbusters like Ford vs. Ferrari and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. However, fans should not expect Rousey to be playing herself in the proposed biopic.

Ronda Rousey won’t play herself in her Netflix biopic

Paramount Pictures originally put the film in development in 2015, and Mark Bomback was in charge of writing. Ronda Rousey was expected to star as well. By then, she had been seen in supporting roles in Furious 7 and The Expendables 3.

But her biopic was stuck in development limbo. After multiple changes in the studio’s leadership, its rights eventually ended up with Netflix. Michelle Evans, who became Rousey’s fan through UFC, championed the project at Netflix.

Now, after fighting a long battle to write the script herself, Rousey has finally landed the opportunity to do so. It creates a unique situation as athletes and other public figures usually have veteran writers taking on the job of writing their biopics.

But Rousey has reportedly been determined to adapt the screenplay herself, with sources saying that she developed her knowledge of screenwriting with Adam Novak, a veteran executive working with WME’s story group. However, the UFC Champion will now not be starring as the film’s lead. As she is taking on writing duties now, she will meet actors who could play her as the casting process is reported to begin in the upcoming months.
