Ron Howard Remembers Garry Marshall: 'A World-Class Creator, Mentor, Philosopher, and Friend'

Ron Howard has added his own tribute to the hundreds that have been pouring in for Garry Marshall, the legendary TV, movie producer and director who died Tuesday at the age of 81.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Howard remembered the Happy Days creator’s “staggering sense of humor and wisdom” and described Marshall as a “world-class creator, mentor, philosopher, and friend.”
”From his Bronx inspired wording to his staggering sense of humor and wisdom, Garry was at once both unpretentious and inspiring. He was a world-class creator, mentor, philosopher and friend. The mantra he shared with those he worked with who had succeeded in the entertainment industry was priceless. “Success is fantastic,” he’d say “but never forget that life is more important than show business,” said Howard.

He added: “Those of us who were lucky enough to be in Garry’s orbit have all been made better people for that gift. He will leave a hell of a void…but a lot of laughs and a lot of meaning buried underneath those laughs, too.”
