Ron Cephas Jones, the Emmy Award-winning actor known for his work on This Is Us and Mr. Robot, has died at the age of 66.

Jones passed away “due to a long-standing pulmonary issue.” The actor’s representative said in a statement, “Throughout the course of his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness and heart were felt by anyone who had the good fortune of knowing him. He began his career at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and his love for the stage was present throughout his entire career, including his recent Tony nominated and Drama Desk Award winning performance for his role in Clyde’s on Broadway. Ron’s inner-beauty and soul was evident to the huge audience from his multi-Emmy award winning performance on This is Us.”

Jones previously received a double-lung transplant due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

On This Is Us, Jones portrayed William Hill, the biological father of Randall Pearson (played by Sterling K. Brown). For the role, he was twice awarded a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

Jones’ other notable television roles included Mr. Robot, Truth Be Told, and Luke Cage. He also appeared in films such as Dolemite Is My Name, Half Nelson, Across the Universe, and He Got Game.
