Here’s all the Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice release date?
The Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice release date could arrive by 2025 at the earliest.
In early May 2024, Athena filmmaker Romain Gavras announced his first English-language and star-studded project, Sacrifice. The cast includes Chris Evans as Mike Tyler and Anya Taylor-Joy as Joan. The film will also feature Salma Hayek Pinault and Brendan Fraser in yet-undisclosed roles.
“It came from a very simple idea, which is every time you go to those events, whether it’s in Cannes, whether it’s a charity event and where you have all those people, the mischievous side of me, and I think the audience as well when they’re watching those events, they kind of want something to go really horribly wrong,” Gavras explained to Deadline. “When you see glitzy people and all the shininess and all that stuff, you want that moment to be twisted, right?”
Gavras penned the script with Will Arbery (Succession) and will produce it alongside Evans, Taylor-Joy, and Iconoclast’s Robert Walak. Production is slated to begin in September this year. If things go according to plans, Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice can come out in 2025 at the earliest.
This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.

However, Athena had its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival before it debuted on Netflix. Thus, it is possible that Sacrifice might follow the same release pattern. Nevertheless, given the cast, the film can also come out in theaters. ComingSoon will provide an update if and when there is more news about Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice.
The official synopsis for Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice reads:
“After a very public breakdown, film star Mike Tyler needs to get back in the spotlight. She kidnaps Mike along with the world’s richest man and another person, dragging them across an unforgiving landscape for the sake of a prophecy with apocalyptic stakes: to save humanity by sacrificing three lives. Mike sees a chance at redemption by surviving this role of a lifetime, but Joan will stop at nothing to fulfill her mission.”
