‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’: Strap In For 360° Video Ride As X-Wing Pilot

As the countdown to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story continues, a new 360° video gives fans the chance to pilot an X-wing fighter — sort of. The immersive clip experience created by ILMxLAB puts viewers in the cockpit as a rebel pilot who encounters Imperial ships and comes under fire — with only his R2 unit and wingman for company. Check it out above.

The first of Disney and Lucasfilm’s stand-alone Star Wars pics aims to show that the nearly 40-year-old franchise can sustain yearly installments with separate stories alternating between chapters in the main saga. The film details how the Rebel Alliance came into possession of those Death Star plans that set the plot of 1977’s Star Wars into motion. It follows the ragtag group of rebel operatives tasked with stealing the blueprint for the Empire’s ultimate weapon of mass destruction. Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed star along with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards from Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy’s script based on John Knoll and Gary Whitta’s story. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are the producer. Disney launches the film into North American megaplexes on December 16.
