Oct. 26—Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture will be hosting its second annual showing of the cult classic film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on Saturday at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts in Yuba City.

The film will begin at 7 p.m. with general admission starting at $20, while premiere seating and an interactive movie kit can be purchased for an additional $10. This event will serve as a fundraiser for Tri-County Diversity, an affiliate of Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health.

Touted as the longest-running film in cinema history, "Rocky Horror" has grossed hundreds of millions in box office receipts since its debut in 1975. It may best be described as a science-fiction comedy-horror musical and stars actors such as Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick.

From its origins with a niche crowd of midnight movie goers, this "cult film" has grown to include a global following complete with costumes, rituals, and group recitations. Audience participation has become a welcomed and expected part of the "Rocky Horror" phenomenon with a whole host of callbacks, hecklings, dance moves, and special props adding to the experience.

Attendees are encouraged to dress the part with get ups that might include heavy makeup or a costume relevant to the film. Dr. Frank N. Furter, Janet Weiss, Brad Majors, and Riff Raff are believed to be some of the most popular characters but there are many others to choose from. Due to its previous popularity, organizers encourage audiences to purchase their tickets in advance at the box office during regular business hours or online at yubasutterarts.org.
