Rock Academy prepares for students’ rockin’ year-end concert

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Get ready to rock out! The Rock Academy of Performing Arts is putting on a rockin’ end-of-the-year concert to celebrate the 2023-2024 school year.

The “Pop Rock and RAPA Redone” performance explores the pop rock genre throughout the decades and puts a twist on a collection of popular songs the students have made into their own. Year 1 students will showcase the pop-rock genre with an emphasis on guitars and melodies. Year 2 and 3 students will take songs and make their own versions.

The Rock Academy of Performing Arts, designed for high school students of all experience levels, gives aspiring vocalists and musicians the opportunity to perform and develop careers specifically within the rock ‘n roll music genre. The students are led by Chief Rock Officer Dr. Jay Caballero, who is shaping Las Vegas’ next generation of rock stars.

“The students are coming here, they’re learning music theory, they’re learning production, songwriting, history of rock ‘n roll, and other classes, so we’re not a traditional band and orchestra program and choir,” said Caballero. “We’re under the modern rock ‘n roll and modern music genre.”

“Pop Rock and RAPA Redone” takes place Saturday, May 11 at The Space Las Vegas. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with the concert beginning at 5:45 p.m. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10.
