Robin Roberts Celebrates Her 63rd Birthday: 'First Trip Around the Sun as a Married Woman'

The 'Good Morning America' anchor celebrated her first birthday as a married woman on Thursday

Happy birthday, Robin Roberts!

The Good Morning America anchor celebrated her 63rd birthday on Thursday by sharing a set of posts to mark the occasion on her Instagram Story.

In the first post, Roberts uploaded a shot of a cupcake with a single candle in it, with a bouquet of flowers placed closely behind. "Grateful for another trip around the sun," she wrote alongside the photograph.

A second post showed Roberts wearing a pair of bedazzled white sneakers, which she pointed out were a wedding gift from Gayle King.

"... First trip around the sun as a married woman," she captioned that post, which featured a matching bedazzled shoe, presumably belonging to her wife, Amber Laign.

Roberts and Laign, 47, tied the knot back in September after 18 years together.

Around 250 guests gathered at Farmington Gardens, in Farmington, Conneticut, to celebrate the newlyweds during a romantic reception, which included Roberts' GMA colleagues George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer, Michael Strahan, David Muir, Gio Benetiz, Dr. Jen Ashton and Tory Johnson among those in attendance.

Days after the event, Roberts shared two photos of herself and Laign hand-in-hand on their wedding day on her Instagram. In her caption, the journalist called the ceremony “magical.”

“An intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception…ohhhh the dancing!!” Roberts wrote. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”

Roberts first revealed her relationship with Laign in a year-end Facebook post in 2013, when she celebrated her recovery from a life-saving bone marrow transplant she underwent to treat myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disease she was diagnosed with in 2007.

Writing alongside a photo of her and her dog, Roberts thanked her medical team, family, friends and sister Sally-Ann, who also served as her donor, for their support. She then thanked her "longtime girlfriend Amber," marking the first time she had publicly acknowledged both Laign and her sexual orientation.

In 2014, while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Roberts revealed that she and Laign first met on a blind date in July 2005.

Roberts and Laign spoke to GMA about their relationship earlier this year, recalling how they got engaged while eating at a restaurant, where they put rings of calamari on each other's fingers.

"Now looking back, it was pretty fitting for us to not have a down-on-one-knee [proposal] and one person doing it and who was going to propose," Roberts said. "It was just us hanging out in our little hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot and putting calamari rings on each other and saying, 'Let's go. Let's do it.' "
