Robert Redford and the 'Pete's Dragon' Cast Pick Their Real-Life Elliot

Pete’s Dragon is a remake of the 1977 film of the same name. The film sees a young boy named Pete who befriends a large, green, and adorable dragon he names Elliot. Elliot is not quite like other dragons we’ve come to know in pop culture these days. No, he’s kind, friendly, and there for you when you need a pal.

Knowing this, when Yahoo Movies had the chance to speak with the stars of Pete’s Dragon, we asked them who in their lives was their Elliot. “I suspect not any one person,” answered Robert Redford. “Maybe one or two or three people for different people for different reasons over time.”

“I have a lot of Elliots,” noted Bryce Dallas Howard. “My husband is definitely, definitely a great Elliot. My children, my family, for sure. That’s actually a beautiful way of putting it.” “My dog, Mochi,” noted Oakes Fegley, who plays the titular Pete. His young co-star Oona Laurence was thinking along the same lines. “My two dogs, probably,” she said. “I mean, Elliot is exactly like a dog, really. Except much bigger and green.”

The more Redford thought about it, he too thought of the pets he’s had in his life. “When I was very young, aside from my parents, I think dogs [were my Elliot],” the Hollywood legend noted. “I think I felt so comfortable around dogs, and having my own dog was such a big deal, because it meant I had something I could control and nurture and become friends with and they wouldn’t talk back.”

While we all (hopefully) have our own versions of Elliot in our lives, it should be noted that the large, green, fuzzy dragon stands alone. “There’s one, and only one, true Elliot,” Howard pointed out.

Robert Redford doesn’t want remakes of his movies:
