If you only know Robert Pattinson from the "Twilight" movies, you may think he's a somewhat odd choice to take on a role like Batman. After all, the "Twilight" movies don't have the best reputation in the film community.
In his work since those movies, though, Pattinson has proven himself to be an interesting actor who likes to take on a variety of strange roles. Now that he'll play Batman in Matt Reeves "The Batman," the actor has opened up about taking the role.
Apparently, Pattinson didn't have any qualms about taking on the part after it was offered to him. He knew there would be some debate about his casting, but even that didn't stop him.
"There’s a part of me that just thinks it’s not possible that it’ll be like what happened with Twilight," Pattinson shared in an interview with We Got This Covered. "I’m hoping that there won’t be people hanging outside my place."
The "Twilight" movies brought the actor a lot of attention at a young age.
Still, Pattinson doesn't think "The Batman" will cause nearly as much of a frenzy as those movies did, and he has a theory as to why that's the case. "I just think I’m kind of boring and old now," he stated.
Pattinson may be less famous than he was at the height of "Twilight," but Batman may be the most famous movie character of all time. The actor who plays him is always going to be in the spotlight, at least to some degree.
Meanwhile, Pattinson's "Twilight" co-star and ex Kristin Stewart has also weighed in on Pattinson's casting. "I feel like he’s the only guy that could play that part," she explained. "I am so happy for him, it’s crazy. It just feels like, I dunno. I’m very, very happy about that. I heard that and I was like, ‘Oh man!’ Yeah, yeah, it’s awesome."
Stewart may know Pattinson better than anyone, and it's clear that she thinks he'll be a great fit.
In the interview, Pattinson also admitted that he didn't think he was being seriously considered for the role, and was surprised when he got it. Now, anticipation for the movie is building as more casting announcements get made.
Pattinson will be joined by Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Colin Farrell as as The Penguin, and Paul Dano as The Riddler. The movie is set to be released in June of 2021, and the world will be watching when it does.
