Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of their first screen collaboration (“Mean Streets”), actor Robert De Niro and director Martin Scorsese reunited in 2023 to make “Killers of the Flower Moon,” thus bringing their amount of shared feature film credits to an even 10. Although their latest joint effort constitutes a rare instance of Scorsese employing De Niro’s talents in a supporting capacity, his new role is far from the shortest he’s played for the director, both in terms of actual time on screen and percentage of the total film. Check out our photo gallery in which we rank all 10 of De Niro’s Scorsese-directed performances from shortest to longest.

De Niro worked with Scorsese three times in the 1970s, twice in the ‘80s, and three times in the ‘90s before the duo took a two-decade collaboration hiatus. After De Niro starred as himself in Scorsese’s 2015 short film, “The Audition,” their partnership was properly reignited as the actor took on the lead role in the director’s 25th narrative feature, “The Irishman” (2019).

Over the years, Scorsese has seen De Niro to many award wins and nominations, including his 1981 Best Actor Oscar victory for “Raging Bull” and bids in the same category for “Taxi Driver” (1977) and “Cape Fear” (1992). The combined running time of their 10 films is just under 25 hours (average: 149 minutes), and De Niro’s overall screen time amounts to right around 50% of that total.
