Following the surprising news that Robbie Williams will be getting the biopic treatment, an even more bonkers piece of info about it has emerged.

Last week, it was confirmed that The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey will be taking on the singer's life story in "fantastical" movie Better Man.

While it was previously unclear how the singer would appear on screen, it is now being reported by Deadline that Williams will be portrayed by… a CGI monkey. Yes, we just spat out our morning coffee too.

The site reports the rather bizarre decision amid the European Film Market, with one buyer describing the monkey concept as "bananas". That's one way of putting it.

Better Man will tell the story of Williams' rise to fame and experiences that made him who he is, showing the highs and lows of his life.

"It's this fantastical story, and I want to represent it in its harsh reality all the way to these moments of pure fantasy," Gracey previously explained.

The director added of the songs: "All Robbie's songs will be re-sung, for the emotion of the moment. If in his life he's in the depths of despair, he's not going to sing a song as cabaret flamboyant showmanship – it's going to be broken, acapella, stripped down, because that's where he is emotionally.

"In moments of pure joy, you'll get songs sung in this whirlwind of hysteria. So essentially every song in the film, Robbie will sing, but it will be performed for the emotion of that moment, and that scene."

We just can't wait to see a CGI monkey belt out 'Angels', to be honest.
