Rob Lowe’s ‘Unstable’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

Netflix is revisiting Rob Lowe’s family dynamic with his son, John Owen.

The streaming giant has handed out a second season renewal to Unstable, the family comedy exploring the father and son’s dynamic. Additionally, Victor Fresco is handing over showrunning duties to Andrew Gurland (Married, Platonic) for the second season.

Production on the eight-episode second season will begin in L.A. later this month.

The news comes after Lowe’s Fox drama, 911: Lone Star, was pushed to the 2024-25 broadcast season following delays as a result of Hollywood’s dual strikes. The show’s production delay helped Lowe clear up his schedule to film Unstable.

“It’s a dream come true for us to jump back into the world of Unstable. Here’s to season two and the many hours of family therapy that we will need along the way,” the Lowes said in a joint statement Thursday.

Unstable was created by Rob and John Owen Lowe and Fresco. The trio exec produce alongside Sean Clements and Claire Scanlon, with the latter attached as director. The Lowes star alongside Sian Clifford, Rachel Marsh, Emma Ferreira and Aaron Branch. The timing of the renewal comes a day after Netflix cleaned house with the cancellations of Shadow and Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Captain Fall and Farzar as streamers across the TV landscape re-evaluate their content slates in the midst of an industry-wide contraction.
