Rob Lowe Sued By Former Employee For Discrimination & Wrongful Termination

Rob Lowe is being dragged to court by a former employee who claims she was wrongfully fired by the filmmaker, after getting sick.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the former personal assistant accused the "St Elmo's Fire" actor of employment discrimination and failing to pay overtime amongst other accusations.

She is demanding a large chunk of money, but Lowe has strongly denied the claims.

In the filing, the woman alleges that Lowe and his team initially hired her as an Estate Manager, but she never actually performed the duties of an estate manager.  Instead, she worked more as a personal assistant. Her employment ran from January 10, 2022, to July 11, 2022, when she was "involuntarily terminated."

She claimed things went awry with her job when she opened up about her disability to Lowe and requested accommodation for that illness. The former employee alleged her disability was being treated by a licensed healthcare provider who recommended that she stay away from work for a month.

However, she claims upon presenting Lowe with the medical recommendation, she lost her job.

"She provided that document to (Lowe) on July 7, 2022. On July 11, 2022, Plaintiff's employment was terminated," the document read.

At the time, it appears the person was struggling with a physical and mental illness.

Aside from the alleged discrimination, the former employee claimed Lowe failed to pay her for overtime even though she spent many hours working from home and during the weekend.

She claims as a direct result of Lowe's discrimination she "has suffered and continues to suffer substantial losses in earnings and job benefits and has suffered humiliation and extreme emotional distress. and suffering normally associated with discrimination, and has suffered physical injury."

She described the "9-1-1-: Lone Star" actor's actions toward her as "outrageous" claiming it was done with "fraud, oppression, and malice with a conscious disregard for her right to be free from discrimination and with the intent, design, and purpose of injuring her and a conscious disregard of her physical and mental health."

Rob Lowe's Denies Allegations As Former Employee Seeks Over $100K In Damages

The woman says her annual salary was $100,000 with an hourly rate of $48.07. However, she allegedly worked approximately 30 overtime hours per week without receiving overtime or double—time compensation.

She is demanding $87,823.89 in unpaid overtime along with interest, $12,498.20 for missed meal period wages, and $17,305.20 for an award of a penalty under CA Labor Code 203. The former staffer also requested that Lowe cover her attorneys' fees and costs.

Lowe has since responded to his former assistant's allegations, denying them completely.

"Plaintiff's discrimination claims are similarly meritless. She never disclosed any purported disability until after she stopped reporting to work. Even then, she failed to disclose any information about the nature or scope of her purported disability preventing Defendant from providing (or even discussing) reasonable accommodations," stated his lawyer.

He alleged that the aggrieved employee simply ignored repeated phone calls and demanded a month off.

Lowe's attorney continued, that she "had no interest in meaningfully discussing her disability, reaching an accommodation, or otherwise complying with the law. These facts do not support any viable claim under the Fair Employment and Housing Act."
