Rob Lowe might want to double check who he is sending text messages to in the future. During a recent visit to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the ” 9-1-1: Lone Star” actor revealed that he accidentally texted Bradley Cooper a congratulations for winning a Golden Globe thinking the message was going to Robert Downey Jr. The mishap was a bit awkward considering Cooper was nominated for a golden globe for “Maestro” but lost the best actor in a motion picture drama category to Cillian Murphy from “Oppenheimer.”

“Downey does this amazing acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, and I’m so excited for him so I text him, ‘So glad you won. That is the most beautiful acceptance speech I’ve heard in a long time. Boy, do you deserve it,’” Lowe recalled. “I hit it and I realize, ‘Oh shit. I just sent that to Bradley Cooper.’”

Downey Jr. took home the Golden Globe for best supporting actor thanks to his performance in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”

“I said, ‘No, no, I meant that for Robert Downey Jr,’” Lower remembered texting Cooper following the gaffe. “Now that’s even worse! I made the guy feel worse! It was terrible.”

Downey Jr. and Lowe have been lifelong friends since their careers took off during the 1980s. Downey Jr. was even a recent guest on Lowe’s “Literally!” podcast, where Lowe asked his friend if Marvel was going to come calling with an offer for Downey Jr. to return as Iron Man/Tony Stark.

“You know what I say. That phone is going to ring, baby, and I want to be on that call. I want to be negotiating for you,” Lowe said to Downey Jr. about his potential offer to return to Marvel. “I know what your deal is. Here’s what you do. You go, ‘I’ll come back and I’ll play Tony Stark for you guys again since you fucked everything up. But I want a gazillion dollars. I know what that number should be, and I want first dollar gross of every ensuing movie. That’s what I would do.”

Downey Jr. laughed off Lowe’s pitch and said, “That sounds quite hostile!”

After winning the Golden Globe, Downey Jr. went on to win the Critic’s Choice Award for best supporting actor and pick up a nomination in the same category at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. He’s widely expected to land an Oscar nomination next week.
