Rob Gronkowski returns to Buccaneers on 1-year, $10 million deal

Rob Gronkowski isn't ready to do the whole retirement thing again. Gronkowski agreed Monday to a one-year, $10 million deal to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Gronkowski, 31, put up solid numbers in his return to the sport. After going into a one-year retirement in 2019, Gronkowski returned to the NFL in 2020. He was traded to the Bucs and caught 45 passes for 623 yards and seven touchdowns. He played a significant role in the team's Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs, leading the Buccaneers with 67 receiving yards and scoring two touchdowns.

While Gronkowski hasn't exceeded 1,000 receiving yards since 2017, he still proved he has a little bit left in the tank last season. Gronkowski was already a Hall of Fame player before he returned, so any numbers he puts up with the Bucs will only add to his Hall of Fame resume.
It's unclear how much longer Gronkowski will continue playing, though the length of his deal suggests he might be year to year at this point. Gronkowski's decision could depend on how much longer Tom Brady keeps going. Brady signed a one-year extension Friday that will keep him in Tampa Bay through the 2022 season, so perhaps Gronkowski will have one more season in him after this deal expires.
