What Is Rihanna Trying to Tell Us?

Am I being trolled by Rihanna right now?

As legions of fans wait with bated breath for any crumb of news about her next album, the singer and mogul seemed to be sending us all a not-so-subtle message with her latest outfit.

The street-style sighting, which occurred Thursday in New York City, involved a blue T-shirt that read in large white letters: “I'm Retired.” Okay, Rihanna, we can take a hint! Below that statement, a smaller message in red said, “This is as dressed up as I get.”

The Grammy winner paired her eyebrow-raising top with a navy blue maxi skirt with a mermaid silhouette, with the flared-out hem swishing along her ankles as she walked. For some extra colorful injections, she added a lime green leather woven hand bag, bright red sneakers, and blue shield sunglasses.

Rihanna's devoted fan base has been counting the days until the superstar releases new music, with her last studio album, Anti, dropping in 2016. In the years since, Rihanna has teased upcoming musical projects here and there—but, frankly, she has also been kept busy doing other things. For one, she is constantly building her beauty and fashion empire via Fenty Skin and Savage x Fenty—and now even Fenty Hair—and, for another, she started a family with boyfriend A$AP Rocky.

Still, fans should take Rihanna's “I'm Retired” T-shirt with a grain of salt. After all, the mogul is a self-avowed “troll.”

“The troll in me, she had a time,” she told Interview. “Unfortunately, you can’t take anything back from the internet, so I will always have the reminders, but the best troll in me is the silent troll.”
