UPDATED 8/5, 10:40 a.m. ET: As #WhiteSupremacistInChief trends on Twitter, Donald Trump gave a speech in the White House on Monday morning. “The shooter in El Paso posted a manifesto online consumed by racist hate. In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy,” Trump said. “These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hate has no place in America. Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart and devours the soul.”
In addition to incorrectly referring to Toledo when the Ohio shooting occurred in Dayton, the President called the mass murders “evil attacks” and “barbaric slaughters” that count as crimes “against all humanity.”
The shooting in El Paso, Texas left 20 dead and 26 injured, while the shooting in Dayton, Ohio left 9 dead and 26 injured.
