Rapper Riff Raff to parody James Franco on 'One Life to Live'

In what might be the most meta event in the history of daytime TV, rapper Riff Raff will appear on an upcoming episode of One Life to Live as a shady Miami art dealer named “Jamie Franko,” an obvious nod to Oscar-nominee James Franco’s own appearance as an artist on General Hospital. Adding another layer of self-referential fuel to the fire, Riff Raff has claimed that Franco’s character in the controversial movie Spring Breakers is based on him — a charge Franco has (kind of) denied.

Got all that?

While Franco did admit, in an interview with GQ, that Riff Raff “was one of a number of people we looked at” for inspiration for his character, a cornrows’d, gold-toothed hustler named Alien, he has said a Florida rapper named Dangeruss was his real muse. Franco elaborated on Dangeruss’ impact on his character in the Harmony Korine-directed film at length in a self-penned story for MTV.

Riff Raff has been pretty public with his feelings about Franco’s public statements, so it’s no surprise that the rapper’s cameo, which he filmed April 10 on the Connecticut set of OLTL, is being perceived as a knock against the actor.

Canceled by ABC in 2011, One Life to Live returns with all-new daily 30-minute episodes available through Hulu and iTunes on April 29. If you are curious to see how Riff Raff’s guest arc plays out, his episode will air on May 7.
