Ridley Scott Ups Michael Pruss To Scott Free Exec Veep

EXCLUSIVE: Ridley Scott has promoted Michael Pruss to Executive Vice President of his L.A.-based production company Scott Free. This comes less than three weeks after he set Manchester by the Sea producer Kevin Walsh to become company president.

The move reinforces Pruss’ position at the Fox-based company. He produced the Drake Doremus-directed Equals, the Kristin Stewart-Nicholas Hoult starrer that was acquired by A24 after its Venice premiere. He produced Stewart’s short film directing debut Come Swim, which is in postproduction. Other percolating Scott Free projects Pruss is steering include Zoe, the Doremus-directed film that will star Charlie Hunnam and Lea Seydoux, the Jake Scott-directed and Brad Ingelsby-scripted The Burning Man, the Wash Westmoreland-directed The Earthquake Bird, the Tokyo-noir film for Amazon, the Carlos Saldanha-directed Timeless based on the upcoming Armand Baltazar book trilogy and an adaptation of the Matt Kindt graphic novel series Mind Management.

“Mike’s relationships with filmmakers combined with his excellent taste have made him an invaluable asset to the team at Scott Free,” Walsh said. “Having developed a project previously and worked alongside some of the same producers and executives in our careers, I know that we share a similar vision for the growth of Ridley’s company.”

Pruss first worked with Doremus on Like Crazy, when he was an Indian Paintbrush exec, and he co-produced the helmer’s follow-up before joining Scott Free. He started his career at DreamWorks, then worked at Paramount and moved to Focus Features, working on films that included the Gus Van Sant-directed Milk, the George Clooney starrer The American and the Henry Selick pic Coraline.
