Hey, folks, just one more day of asphalt curdling heat and things should ease up a bit, if the forecast is to be believed.

Since it's hot, let's start our Weekend Guide with a few places to escape the swelter and still have tons of fun:

Delaware State Fair

This is the final day of the 2023 Delaware State Fair, so heat wave or now heat wave, it's now or never.

Matthew Korfhage has tried tons of the food at the fair to help guide your noshing decisions. BBQ Parfait? Pickle Pizza? Doughnut Burger? Yeah, all that and more.

Before you head out, be sure to consult our 2023 Delaware State Fair Guide, with all you need to know about tickets, safety, concessions and more. You will find the full guide to fair entertainment here.

Wondering how rides are inspected at the fair and if they have all passed? Check out our story.

Ride the waves at Delaware beaches

If you're headed to the beach this weekend, keep in mind the Bidens are likely headed there, too. That could mean some traffic tie-ups.

As always Shannon Marvel McNaught has rounded up everything you need to know if you go with our weekly Beach Guide.

And Patty Talorico has this great guide to how you may be able to spot the president if that's your thing.

Stay cool, whatever you do. Sunblock up, floppy hats, light clothing and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate (tequila shots don't count!)

Cool off at these fun spots

The dog days of summer bark loud and proud as the region is hit with a heat wave late this week.

Some of you have young kids on summer break to entertain, but it’s likely too hot to take them outside. Others need a new after-work activity now that an outdoor walk in the park is out of the question.

Whatever your heat-related plight may be, we know how frustrating it can be to limit yourself to the indoors, especially if you have a house full of children to keep entertained.

Check out these fun spots, as well as some tips to keep you chill.

Summer bucket list

We're hyped for another summer weekend, as July gives way to August.

From New Castle to Slower Lower, there is no shortage of fun to be had from beach to city and everywhere in between.

To inspire you to make the most of it, we've polled our Delaware Online/The News Journal team to share their bucket list items, the things they are determined to do to maximize their own summer of 2023.

We all scream!

Have you ever seen the old Jim Jaramusch film "Down by Law''?

Well, it's the perfect binge-watch for a sultry late July night if you're staying in. It stars Roberto Begnini (!), John Lurie and Tom Waits and is pretty fabulous. But our point here is, the funniest scene involves ice cream.

And so does this roundup by Krys'tal Griffin, which points you in the direction of 9 ice cream places to check out in Delaware.

Something wicked this way comes

The three witches (from left, CJ Higgins, Rachel O'Hanlon-Rodriguez and Kimie Muroya) in Delaware Shakespeare's opening night performance of "Macbeth" at Rockwood Park near Wilmington, Friday, July 21, 2023. The production runs through Aug. 6.

Everything that glitters ain't gold. It's a shocking prophecy Macbeth gets from supernatural women on a bloody path for power that looks nothing like ketchup stains. Will Macbeth come out on top? You'll find out in Delaware Shakespeare Summer Festival's version of the Shakespeare tragedy.

Rockwood Park (4651 Washington St., Extension, near Wilmington) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 6 p.m. Sundays. The final show is Sunday, Aug. 6. Wednesday shows are pay-what-you-can donations. Tickets for other dates are $20-$25. Visit delshakes.org or (302) 468-4890.

Check out our photo gallery from the opening performance here.

Movies in the park

Want to catch a free movie in the park? It may be too hot tonight but there are plenty more to enjoy this summer.
