The Chronicles of Riddick is a science fiction space western media franchise that revolves around the eponymous Riddick (Vin Diesel), an antiheroic protagonist in the 28th century. There are currently three cinematic entries in the franchise: Pitch Black (2000), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), and Riddick (2013). The Chronicles of Riddick films were not massively successful at the box office. The biggest hit among them was Riddick, which earned $98.3 million at the global box office against a $38 million budget. However, all three films experienced impressive numbers in DVD sales. After this happened with Riddick, Universal Pictures reportedly began to show an interest in the prospective fourth film. Diesel announced in April 2016 that he and David Twohy, the director of all three previous films, had begun working on the fourth film, which was known at the time as The Chronicles of Riddick: Furya. In the same year, it was also revealed that the film would be rated R.

The production was supposed to begin in early 2017, but that didn’t happen. In July 2019, Diesel took to Instagram to announce that Twohy’s script for the fourth movie, now titled Riddick 4: Furya, was ready. The MCU actor shared a concept art for the upcoming project on the same social media platform in May 2023, indicating that the upcoming film had entered into the storyboarding part of the pre-production. If filming begins in 2024, Riddick 4: Furya can potentially come out in 2025.
