Rick Ross’ business knowledge and awareness are hard to question based on all he has accomplished. The Miami rapper recently said that Def Jam, his former label, is “damn near outta business.”

Rozay spoke with Rolling Stone in an interview published Monday (Nov. 6) to promote Too Good To Be True, his upcoming joint album with Meek Mill. During the conversation, The Teflon Don was asked if he would participate in the popular Def Jam fighting video game series if a new iteration were to ever come out.

“I might have to do it,” the 47-year-old rapper said. “But Def Jam is damn near outta business, so it’ll have to be Maybach Music. That was a cool-a** game, yo!” Notably, Ross did not go into further detail as to what made him arrive at that conclusion.

Rick Ross left Def Jam in 2015 after releasing Black Market. He went on to sign with Epic Records for an almost six-year stint before fulfilling his contract obligations with his 2021 album Richer Than I Ever Been.

Now, the “Ima Boss” rapper is reuniting with Meek Mill to release Too Good To Be True under his Maybach Music Group imprint and Larry Jackson’s Gamma media company. Ahead of the album, the duo has shared “Shaq & Kobe,” the remix to that record featuring Shaquille O’Neal and Damian Lillard, and “Lyrical Eazy.”

Too Good will mark both rappers’ first releases since 2021, with Meek releasing Expensive Pain in October 2021 and Ross releasing Richer Than I Ever Been in December 2021. These joint records also end their nearly four-year stint of not collaborating, with the last linkup coming in 2019 on “Bogus Charms” from Ross’ Port Of Miami 2.
