Why have Rick and Morty’s voices changed in season 7?
Rick and Morty’s voices have changed because their original voice actor and co-creator, Justin Roiland, was let go prior to season 7.
While the voices of Rick and Morty have changed, they do sound pretty similar. The new voice actors have done a remarkable job keeping their voices similar to what Roiland did in the past.
Who are the new Rick and Morty voice actors?
Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden voice Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, respectively, in season 7 and beyond.
The creatives went through thousands of auditions in their extensive casting process that lasted for six months. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Rick and Morty showrunner Scott Marder revealed how rigorous the casting process was. Finally, they picked the newcomers: Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden.
Why was Justin Roiland replaced in Rick and Morty?
Adult Swim cut ties with Justin Roiland after his felony domestic abuse charges came to light.
According to a criminal complaint, the Rick and Morty co-creator was charged with “one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit” in May 2020.
Due to that, Adult Swim ended its association with him. In an official statement, it was stated:
“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on season 7.”
