RICHMOND — Looking for something fun to do on Labor Day? Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, one of my favorite Virginia attractions, will offer free admission.

Experience a day of relaxation and fun with 50 acres of gardens, beautiful flowers, friendly people, woodland paths and more during Genworth Free Community Day on Monday, September 4 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The complimentary admission includes Butterflies LIVE! [line closes at 3:30 p.m.] as well as Incanto: An Oasis of Lyrical Poetry, the premiere exhibition of New York City-based sculptor Kate Raudenbush with poetry by Sha Michele in a friendship born from the legendary Burning Man community.

Whiskey Rebellion will deliver a dose of high-energy Americana music from noon - 3 p.m. The band plays a mix of bluegrass, jazz and rock and roll.

In 2019, USA Today voted Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden as the fourth “Best Botanical Garden” in the Nation out of 20 nominees. That same year, Better Homes & Garden Magazine recognized it as one of "8 Most Instagram-Worthy Botanical Gardens in the U.S."

If you can't make it to the Garden on Labor Day to take advantage of the awesome freebie, the regular daily admission is $17 for adults, $14 for seniors [65+] and military, $8 for children [3+], and free for age 2 and below.

The must-see destination also has a library, a café and an enormous gift shop. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is located at 1800 Lakeside Ave. in Richmond. It is open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Nov. 25 and Dec. 24-25.

Parking is limited, and once lots are full, the Garden will close gates temporarily. Gates will reopen once space becomes available. Visit lewisginter.org for more information.
