Richard Gere Reveals His Son Homer, 24, 'Doesn't Understand' His Father's Level of Fame

The actor shares his older son with ex Carey Lowell

Richard Gere's older son doesn't quite understand how famous his father is.

The actor, 74, spoke with Vanity Fair Spain in a new exclusive interview and opened up about how he's moving his family to Spain, which is where his wife Alejandra Silva is from. In the article, which was originally written in Spanish, Gere shares that he hasn't been watching many new movies since welcoming his younger sons.

"The truth is we don't go out much. We have three small children. An 11-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 4-year-old," Gere told the outlet. "So around 9:30 at night, we are all asleep. If we watch something, it will be on the big television we have at home."

Gere went on to share that he doesn't go to premieres or watch his own films, adding that neither his wife nor his older son Homer, 24, have seen many of his movies.

"He doesn't understand it," Gere said when asked if his son understands that his dad is a star. "And it is also very difficult for him to see me on the screen because even if I play an extreme character, I am still his father and it is difficult for him to get into the story."

"As it happens, he just started acting too. He has suddenly become interested and seems to enjoy it. He's been writing and directing little movies, so we have this new thing in common."

Gere shares his son Homer with ex Carey Lowell. He is also dad to son Alexander, 5, and a son whose name has not yet been revealed, 3, with wife Silva.

On Mother's Day last year, Silva shared a sweet photo of Gere with his three kids on her Instagram. The proud mom spent time playing in the sand with the couple's younger son, older son Alexander, and Albert, 9, Silva's son from a previous relationship.

"We organize this incredible trip for our anniversary and Mother's Day to paradise! Thanks @horizontal_travel @all4one.travel, and of course, my wonderful husband for the best Mother's Day ever!" the mom of three, 40, captioned the shot.

That March, Silva shouted out her stepson Homer in a grid post.

"In these times, especially if you live in the city, it is so difficult to be able to enjoy the basic pleasures that nature offers us — for me, the ones I value the most and those I want to instill in my family," she wrote, as translated from Spanish.

"Back to basics. This one goes out to our beloved Homer Gere," she said of Homer.
