Ric Ocasek's Widow Paulina Porizkova Comments On The Car's Singer's Passing

A Tragic Loss

Fans of classic rock band The Cars were devastated to learn that singer and guitarist Ric Ocasek passed away on Sunday. He recently underwent surgery and was found unresponsive in his home by wife Paulina Porizkova and was declared dead on the scene. The official cause of death is heart disease.

His Widow's Statement

His widow, supermodel Paulina Porizkova posted a statement addressing Ocasek's untimely death on Instagram, thanking everyone for their support and asking for privacy.

"Ric was at home recuperating very well after surgery. Our two sons, Jonathan and Oliver, and I were making sure he was comfortable, ordering food and watching TV together. I found him still asleep when bringing him his Sunday morning coffee. I touched his cheek to rouse him. It was then I realized that during the night he peacefully passed on. We appreciate the great outpouring of love. We, his family and friends, are completely and utterly devastated by his untimely and completely unexpected death and would appreciate the privacy to mourn in private."

Their sons also shared a message on her Instagram, including Ocasek's final doodle.

"From Ric's sons: Our dad was a prolific doodler. His passing was sudden, unexpected, and beyond heartbreaking," the statement read. "Yesterday, we found this last doodle on his armchair. He couldn't have known what it would end up meaning to us. We love him so much."

A Thirty Year Relationship

Ocasek and Porizkova were married in 1989. They announced their separation in 2018, she accompanied him to The Cars induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony that year as well.

This was obviously a very loving relationship and we wish the family the best as they deal with this loss.
