Can you believe The Real Housewives of Orange County premiered 18 years ago? They grow up so fast. What started as a scrappy little show about a few rich ladies in Coto de Caza has expanded into a global phenomenon. For better or worse, pop culture was forever changed when Vicki Gunvalson, Kimberly Bryant, Lauri Peterson, Jeana Keough, and Jo De La Rosa opened up their lives to the world.

March 22 marks the official “birthday” of RHOC. Honestly, it should be a holiday at this point. Banks should be closed, and work should be canceled. Sadly, we’re just not there as a society.

Although there were no parades or fireworks, The Housewives still commemorated the special day on social media. Stars from the franchise both past and present took to social media to share their love for the franchise which made being a “housewife” one of the most coveted roles on television.

Celebrating 18 years of RHOC

The OG of the OC took to Instagram and shared a throwback of the Season 1 gang, along with the head honcho Andy Cohen. Under the photo, Vicki wrote, “Time flies when you’re having fun. What the heck was I wearing????”

Currently, Vicki is touring the country with Shannon Beador doing their two-woman show. It’s a huge shift from the woman we met 18 years ago. Reminiscing on the first season, Vicki wrote on IG, “I didn’t know then how that show would change my life!”

Jo jumped into the comments and showed love to Vicki and the franchise. Most recently, we saw her at BravoCon 2023 honoring Vicki with the Wifetime Achievement Award. On Instagram, she had to take a moment to question their 2006 fashion choices.

Jo wrote, “I can’t believe it’s been 18 years! Also, not my caramel hair and added curls to make it even worse!”

Tamra Judge also celebrated the 18th anniversary on her Instagram. She might not be an OG, but the OC certainly wouldn’t be the same without her. When celebrating the anniversary, she showed major love to the Housewives that started it all.

Tamra wrote, “Can you believe it’s been 18 years since the series premiere of #RHOC? Nothing but respect for the OGs who paved the way.”

Of course, The Real Housewives would be nothing without their fearless leader, Andy. He has produced the show since the beginning and has sacrificed his eardrums by sitting at the center of every reunion. On Instagram, he shared a heartfelt post shouting out the OGs that got him to where he is today.

“I didn’t know then how that show- and over a hundred incredible women over ten-plus spinoffs – would change pop culture, and my life,” Andy wrote.

Most television shows can barely get a second season. RHOC is getting ready to start their 18th. That’s a real legacy. Bravo should go ahead and start planning an epic celebration for that 20th anniversary.

You can watch all 17 seasons of The Real Housewives of Orange County on Peacock.
