Rey Mysterio has praised his wife, Angie Gutiérrez, for all her support over the years

Rey Mysterio, whose real name is Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio, has been married to his wife, Angie Gutiérrez, since 1996.

The revered WWE Hall of Famer met his longtime partner when he was only 15 years old, and over the years, both Mysterio and Gutiérrez have shared details about their relationship and family life while celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and more on social media.

Mysterio has also talked about his decades-long marriage and the couple’s two kids — son Dominik and daughter Aalyah — in several podcast interviews and during his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech in March 2023.

“I always tell her, ‘It’s not I or me. It’s us, what we’ve accomplished together,’ ” he shared on the podcast WWE After the Bell with Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick in 2023.

So who is Rey Mysterio’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Angie Gutiérrez and her relationship with the WWE star.

She met Mysterio when she was 17

Mysterio wished his wife a happy birthday on Instagram in July 2023, and shared that they met when they were teenagers.

“Amor a primera vista,” he wrote in the caption, which translates to “love at first sight.”

Mysterio elaborated on their early days of dating on the podcast After the Bell.

“It’s just such a special connection that we had from day one,” he said.

She attended Mysterio's first wrestling match

In the After the Bell interview, Mysterio reflected on his first match, and Gutiérrez’s first impressions of wrestling.

“I remember inviting her to my first show and she was like, ‘I’ll go,’ ” he said. “We were just friends at the time, and that kind of just bonded — she had never been to a wrestling match before."

Though she was skeptical of the sport, Gutiérrez still showed up in support.

Mysterio continued, "She enjoyed it. She saw my first match. She’s seen my growth from a different perspective than anyone else, which is crazy."

They married in 1996

Mysterio and Gutiérrez wed on May 15, 1997, after dating for six years.

In a 2021 Instagram post, Gutiérrez shared a photo of her family to celebrate her major milestone with Mysterio.

“25 years of marriage, two BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN, 31 years together and the most beautiful family,” she wrote in the translated caption, which was originally written in Spanish.

She encouraged Mysterio during the early years of his career

When Mysterio was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023, he thanked Gutiérrez for her years of support and was brought to tears while remembering the sacrifices she made at the beginning of his career.

“I remember every Sunday walking out of the gym to the telephone that was right down the corner, and I would call Angie, bawling my eyes out," Gutiérrez recalled. "I would tell her, ‘I can’t take this anymore. I want to go back home. I don’t have family out here, I’m desperate, I’m not making money. I ran out of money. I just wanna go home.’ ”

He continued, "And her exact words were — she said, ‘Wait it out, stick to it.’ And what Angie did was — she was studying medicine at the time, and she literally put her medical career aside, got a job and would send me money so I could pursue my dream.”

They share two kids

Mysterio and Gutiérrez have two children, daughter Aalyah and son Dominik.

In April 2023, Gutiérrez announced on Instagram that Aalyah had been accepted to medical school at the University of California San Diego and called her “the apple of my eye.”

Around the same time, Mysterio opened up about Gutiérrez and Dominik’s strong bond in an interview on the podcast Impaulsive.

“He always stuck around with mom," he said.

Their son Dominik is also in the WWE

Dominik has taken after his dad, but they’re currently rivals in the WWE.

They were tag team partners, until Dominik did a “heel turn.” Now considered a “heel,” another name for a bad guy in the WWE, Dominik went on to challenge his dad to a match in 2023.

The father and son faced off against each other at WrestleMania in 2023, and Mysterio won.
