‘Revenge Body’ Celebrity Trainers Harley Pasternak and Simone De La Rue Share Fitness Tips

The big name at the center of the show Revenge Body is Khloé Kardashian, who coaches people on achieving their weight-loss dreams. She mostly gives advice and attempts to inspire them, but when it comes to actually breaking a sweat, that’s left to her stable of trainers.

Yahoo Celebrity spoke with Harley Pasternak and Simone De La Rue, two Hollywood trainers who appear on the show and also have a deep bench of celebrity clients. Pasternak has trained Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Robert Downey Jr., Adam Levine, Amy Schumer … the list goes on. Simone De La Rue founded the popular studio Body by Simone in 2011, which has included clients like Anne Hathaway, Taylor Swift, and Sandra Bullock. Despite such high-profile names, both trainers agreed that they approach training stars in the same way they do average Joes. Here are a few of the fitness tips they shared:

  • Try alternative (and fun) ways to exercise: De La Rue, whose classes are grounded in dance (she was classically trained in ballet), told Yahoo Celebrity, “[Our classes] are like a nightclub without the cigarettes and the alcohol and the sleazy guy trying to pick you up. It’s just a big dance party.” Harley recommends pickup games of basketball or speed rounds of golf.

  • Leave your phone at home (but not all social media is bad): Both trainers recommend avoiding your phone while working out. “When it comes time to do your resistance exercises … to be in the gym, be present, be focused, put your phone away,” said Pasternak. Still, social media can inspire people to challenge themselves. “We’re seeing clients posting their workouts [on Instagram] as motivation to other people, which is great,” noted De La Rue.

  • Don’t use celebrities as a fitness template: Most of Pasternak and De La Rue’s A-list clients have bodies that are ridiculously ripped. Sure, it can be aspirational, but De La Rue thinks people need to be realistic. “I want people to have goals, but the idea is that we just want you to be strong and be healthy,” she said. “Don’t go with the trends, you have to be what your body type can be. You can’t walk in being 5-foot with a tiny build and expect to have a voluptuous J.Lo figure.”
