In retirement, Jerry Rice crashes a wedding just about every weekend

We probably needed a good laugh this week, and Kevin Clark of The Ringer gave us one with an amazing story on legendary receiver Jerry Rice. It turns out, Rice’s new hobby is crashing weddings.

If you’re getting married in the Bay Area, there’s a chance the greatest receiver in the history of the NFL might stop by, take some pictures and bust some moves on the dance floor. No big deal. Just Jerry Rice, NFL great, showing up unexpectedly at your wedding.

The Ringer’s story is tremendous. Rice doesn’t necessarily make plans to crash weddings. He usually ends up stopping by weddings at a country club after a round of golf on the weekend, or comes across them when he’s traveling. Rice told Clark he started crashing weddings after his retirement and estimates he crashes one wedding per weekend.

“For some reason, it always turns out that they are so excited,” Rice told Clark. “They want to take pictures, and I’m just happy to take pictures with them. It always turns out to be bigger than that.”

This is weird, kind of crazy and absolutely incredible and hilarious.

Simply awesome. Then there’s one of the greatest quotes you’ll ever read from Clark’s story, which you need to go read in full right now:

“The best was when my mother-in-law was kissing Jerry Rice,” Jennifer Restrani, whose wedding in San Ramon, California, was crashed by Rice, said. “My husband went over to his dad and said, ‘Dad, mom is kissing Jerry Rice,’ and his dad just nodded and said ‘It’s OK.’”
