Retired NFL Player Lawrence Taylor Arrested For DUI After Reportedly Hitting A Cop Car

Taylor was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.

Former NFL player Lawrence Taylor was released from a Florida jail on Saturday (Sept. 3) after being arrested on suspicion of DUI. According to the Sun Sentinel, 57-year-old Taylor sideswiped a cop car while driving on a Florida highway Friday (Sept. 2) evening.

The retired pro athlete was apparently trying to merge onto the highway at around 5:00 p.m., when his Bentley hit the right side of a motor home. He then careended into a Florida Highway patrol car on the shoulder of the Florida Turnpike. Taylor was pulled over and subsequently arrested following a field sobriety test. His blood alcohol level was .084 (Florida’s legal limit is .08) hours after the incident.

An arrest record shows that Taylor was booked into the Palm Beach County jail at 2:49 a.m. and freed within a couple of hours.

The DUI bust marks the latest round of public drama involving Taylor in a matter of months. In June, his wife was arrested for domestic violence after throwing an object at the back of his head which left a 3-inch cut.

In 2009 Taylor was arrested in a hit-and-run incident adding to his growing list of arrests and vehicle-related mishaps. In 1996 Taylor totaled his own car and fled the scene, six months later he was charged with statutory rape for paying to have sex with a 16-year-old girl. He eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute, and was sentenced to six months probation in 2011.

The NFL Hall of Famer has long battled substance and alcohol abuse, and entered rehab for cocaine addiction twice in 1995, and was later arrested multiple times on drug charges.
