Retired Long Beach cop charged with theft from Ocean County PBA conference, prosecutor says

LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP - A 44-year-old recently retired municipal police officer has been charged with stealing at least $47,000 from the regional PBA conference where he served as its treasurer, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Monday.

Jason Hildebrant, 44, of Lacey, was charged with theft by failure to make required disposition, after the Prosecutor’s Office said he unlawfully withdrew funds from the bank account of the New Jersey Policeman’s Benevolent Association (PBA) — Ocean County Conference, between October 2018 and December 2022. The Ocean County PBA Conference represents police officers in 26 local units of the PBA throughout Ocean County.

The recently retired Long Beach Township police officer “unlawfully withdrew funds from the association’s bank account by way of ATM and counter withdrawals and utilized approximately $47,000 in stolen funds for his own personal benefit,” according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Hildebrant was processed at the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office in Toms River and released on a summons pending a future appearance in state Superior Court.

The Economic Crime Squad and the Professional Standards Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office investigated the matter, Billhimer said.
