ASHEVILLE - An oldie but goodie has landed in the top spot as Citizen Times readers’ favorite Girls Scout cookie. And the winner is: Thin Mints.

The Girls Scouts cookie poll was open from Feb. 8-18 on the Citizen Times website, with nine flavors in the running: Adventurefuls, Caramel Chocolate Chip, Caramel deLites, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thin Mints, Toast-Yay! and Trefoils.

Girl Scouts of the USA, a 501(c)(3) organization, commissions two licensed bakeries -- ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Baker -- to make the cookies that are distributed nationwide so cookie flavors may vary depending on the location.

Thin Mints came in first with 37.04% of the votes.

Caramel deLites (also known as Samoas) is the second-place winner with 24.79% of the vote.

Peanut Butter Patties (Tagalongs) is the third-place winner with 12.25% of the vote.

Sarah Robinson, senior marketing manager for the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont, said the top three nationwide bestsellers are Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties and Caramel deLites.

This year, Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont, which oversees more than 6,000 members, has deployed scouts into the community to gain entrepreneurial skills and raise funds for area troops.
