In 2022, Jacksonville's restaurant scene continues to grow, with new restaurants opening or planning to open in the coming months. Here's a look at what's opening or coming soon to the St. Johns Town Center area and the city's Southside.

Light On The Sugar Bakery & Cafe plans to open at 4860 Big Island Drive next door to Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi at The Markets at Town Center. It is an Asian-style, French pastry bakery and cafe known for its inspired, fresh-from-scratch menu specializing in creampuffs, macarons, crepe rolls, tarts and cakes along with specialty coffee and fresh fruit teas. | Read more

The Yard Milkshake Bar

Coming soon to The Strand at St. Johns Town Center is The Yard Milkshake Bar, offering at least 18 decadent milkshakes. The Yard received a city building permit Feb. 16 to build out the former Yogurt Mountain site at 4906 Town Center Parkway. The Yard offers more than two dozen ice cream flavors, including some that are gluten-free and vegan friendly, that can be topped with dozens of options, according to its website. | Read more

Sugar Factory American Brasserie

Upscale sweet treat restaurant, Sugar Factory American Brasserie, received a city building permit on March 9 to renovate and repair the former Brio Tuscan Grille spot at Markets at Town Center. The estimated initial renovation cost is $2.5 million for the 8,535-square-foot restaurant, the permit showed. Sugar Factory is known for its $25, celebrity-endorsed couture pops, and decadent desserts, including $20 milkshakes, $17 sundaes and its $99 “World Famous Sugar Factory King Kong Sundae.” | Read more

Culver's

Midwest mainstay Culver's opened its two newest Northeast Florida restaurants on March 7 — in Jacksonville and Yulee — bringing its total to six in the region. One was at 101 Monument Road in Jacksonville's Arlington neighborhood. The other is at 463731 State Road 200 in Yulee. The restaurant is known for customer favorites including ButterBurgers, fresh frozen custard and cheese curds. It now has restaurants in Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns County. | Read more

Cielo Azul Cocina Mexicana

A new Mexican restaurant planned for The Avenues shopping mall received a city building permit on March 11 for a $300,000 remodeling of the space that formerly was Ruby Tuesday. Cielo Azul Cocina Mexicana is from the same family that owns and operates multiple Salsas Mexican Restaurant locations in Northeast Florida.

Burger Barn Grill

Burger Barn Grill received a city building permit Jan. 13 for buildout of its second local restaurant at 9303 Baymeadows Road. It will join the inaugural location at 475 Durbin Pavilion Drive in Saint Johns at The Pavilion at Durbin Park shopping center. The Baymeadows buildout cost is estimated at $183,000, the permit shows.

One Night Taco Stand

One Night Taco Stand

The third Jacksonville area location of One Night Taco Stand opened Jan. 31 at 8221-1 Southside Blvd. at Baymeadows Road. The other locations are 9703 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin and 1861 Wells Road in Orange Park. The Southside restaurant received its certificate of completion Feb. 4.

World of Beer Bar & Kitchen

World of Beer Bar & Kitchen is returning to Jacksonville after a six-year absence. Jason Frimmel, president and principal of Hospitality Leaders of Jax 1 Inc., based in Tallahassee, said on Jan. 6 the first will be at 5105 J. Turner Butler Blvd. at Bonneval Road in Liberty Center a bank and office center off Interstate 95 in Southpoint. The second will be at 1198 Beach Blvd. at Beach Plaza. Frimmel hopes to open the Jacksonville location in mid-March and the Jacksonville Beach site in April or May. | Read more

M Brothers at Mayo

Jacksonville chefs and restaurateurs David and Matthew Medure opened their newest restaurant — M Brothers at Mayo — on Jan. 10 inside Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, at 4500 San Pablo Road. The Medures added dinner service on Jan. 24. The much-anticipated, new restaurant offers a menu focused on fresh seafood with an Asian and Mediterranean flair. | Read More

K-Bop Korean Kitchen

K-Bop Korean Kitchen, a popular Jacksonville food truck, announced on January 6 that it was opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the Deerwood Lake Commons shopping center, 4320 Deerwood Lake Parkway anchored by Publix. It's across Southside Boulevard from Tinseltown. The restaurant hopes to open in March. The food truck will continue to operate, the owners said in the Facebook announcement. | Read more

Time Out Sports Grill

Time Out Sports Grill opened its second location on Jan. 6 at 10140 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin. It's located in the former Village Inn restaurant. The estimated cost of repairs and alterations to the building was listed at $200,000, according to a Sept, 10 city building permit. The new location joins the original Time Out Sports Grill at 13799-5 Beach Blvd.
