Brothers who've worked their way up in the restaurant business in Northeast Florida have launched their own restaurant inspired by their passion for the coastal cuisine they grew to love as competitive surfers. Opened in January, AB Kitchen at 299 Atlantic Blvd. in Atlantic Beach is "a culinary destination with innovative cuisine focused on healthy eating for an active lifestyle." The concept is fusion-type cuisine catering to a healthy lifestyle and favored by surfers such as the brothers. They also wanted a neighborhood bistro with a fun, up-tempo vibe. The new sandwich shop, which opened in February, at 1500 Beach Blvd. No. 115 in Jacksonville Beach also pays homage to founder, owner and chef Brett Forgich's love of classic punk rock with signature sandwiches (made with bread from the French Pantry) named Live Fast Die Young, Donnie Brasco, Blitzkrieg Bop and others. Then on July 29, another Mayday Ice Cream shop opened at 4853 Big Island Drive No. 3 near St. Johns Town Center. There, the restaurant will share space with DOS Coffee & Wine, which expects to open soon. Opened Feb. 23 by executive chef and co-owner Angelo Masarin, Salumeria 104 offers authentic Northern Italian cuisine specializing in a variety of salumis, antipasti, fresh-from-scratch pasta, meats, fish and desserts featuring recipes handed down from his 96-year-old grandmother who taught him to cook as a child in her kitchen. The restaurant at 60 Ocean Blvd. takes over the spot vacated by Ocean 60 in May 2022 after a 20-year run. The third restaurant under the Salumeria 104 name, the Atlantic Beach location is the first outside of the Miami area for Masarin and co-owners Graziano Sbroggio and Carlo Donadoni. | Read more

Two cousins have opened the first of two Talkin' Tacos quick-service Mexican restaurants in Northeast Florida. Franchise co-owners Jason Malih and Elias Ishak debuted the South Florida restaurant at 1300 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach. Another will follow soon at St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville. Just in time for the kickoff of the 2023 NFL season, Jacksonville’s first Twin Peaks sports bar opened at 11892 Atlantic Blvd. in the former Cinco de Mayo space in early September. The Dallas-based chain is known for its 29-degree draft beer served in frosted 22-ounce mugs, made-from-scratch menu and 43 TVs offering live sports coverage. It’s also famous for its waitstaff, known as the "Twin Peaks Girls," dressed in short denim shorts and buffalo plaid tops, often exposing their midriffs, and described as the “essential ingredient to the perfect lodge experience … equal parts friendly, engaging and attentive.” | Read more

The restaurant's signature biscuit sandwiches include The Vicious, Silence of the Hams, The Sea Biscuit, The Fat Boy and The Flame Thrower.
