These restaurants have special menus and events for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day and the days before and after are typically busy days of the year for restaurants.

It's the day when people splurge on a special dinner for loved ones or that special person in their life.

And let's not forget "Galentine's Day" on Valentine's Day Eve. The made-up holiday got its start more than a decade on the hit sitcom "Parks and Recreation" when character Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) set out to find a way to honor female friendships.Whether you are looking for super high-end, dress-up fancy dining or an intimate or casual spot, metro Detroit restaurants and chefs are ready to make guests swoon over with open tables and special dinners, desserts, and Valentine's Day-themed cocktails.

Galentine's Cocktail Creation workshop is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Your ticket ($30) includes three handcrafted Valentine's theme cocktails served with treats from delightful treats provided by the 220 Merrill pastry team.

Valentine's Day menu offers a selection of oyster offerings, a sushi platter, and a 45-day aged grilled filet mignon and foie gras with charred maitake mushrooms and Madeira sauce, or a creamy saffron risotto with seared sea scallops, confit of maitake mushrooms and shisho chips. Dessert is their Love at First Bite trio features Bailey's chocolate gateau, calamansi sorbet, and almond panna cotta in a berry velvet sauce.

In downtown Royal Oak, Alchemi features an array of specials crafted from farm-to-table and an extensive collection of craft cocktails. Alchemi will feature red wine flights paired with chocolates from around the world. Guests also receive a complimentary cookbook and rose.

Andiamo

A three-course dinner menu with a glass of red or white is paired with music and scenes from "The Phantom of the Opera.” The dinner show is on select days at various Andiamo locations from Feb. 9-17. Cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:45 p.m. The cost is $89.95 per person.

Apparatus Room

The Apparatus Room specials are available throughout next week, including a six-course chef's choice tasting menu at $100 per person. Other specials include a Moraine Park tenderloin filet ($75) and a dessert of Brazilian Chocolate Cremeux ($18) with raspberry sorbet and buckwheat crunch.

A multi-course dinner includes choices of an appetizer, soup and salad, entree, and dessert. Entrees choices include braised lamb shank, pan-roasted branzino, shrimp and scallops, and filet and lobster. Cost is $100 per person. Two seatings are offered, 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For reservations of four or more, you can get 50% off any bottle of wine more than $100.

Blake's Orchard and Cider Mill

Blake’s is offering a brunch event and dinner at its Tasting Room at Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill in Armada and at Blake’s Backyard in Almont.

Galentine’s Day Brunch is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tasting Room at Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill and Blake’s Backyard. Brunch offers charcuterie, a French toast bar and an omelet station. There are also Galentine’s themed goodies, including chocolate-covered strawberries and mimosa flights. Cost is $21.95 and for ages 21 and up only.

From noon to 9 p.m. at both tasting Room at Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill and Blake’s Backyard a special menu for Valentine’s Day features pepper steak egg rolls, wedge salad, chicken lasagna, herb encrusted prime rib and peach cobbler along with four themed cocktails.

Carrabba's Italian Grill

Customize a four-course menu for two with a dessert to share. It’s $65 and also features a Riondo Prosecco Toast with the exclusive menu available now through Feb. 18. French-inspired Coeur has a five-course tasting menu offered on Feb. 10-18. Coeur chef Jordan Smith doesn't typically reveal what's on the tasting menu ($89 per person) but said it will be themed. At the Royal Oak location, Emagine is rolling out its "Strike of Love," which is offered on Valentine's Day. It's Bowling Bliss for Two with a Sweetheart's Snack Basket. The package includes 1.5 hours of unlimited bowling and shoe rentals amid Valentine's Day-themed decorations along with a large popcorn, soft drinks, and two personal pizzas with cheese or pepperoni. This newly opened Japanese restaurant in the Book Tower has several specials. There’s an eight-course robatayaki offering that includes skewers of shishito, scallops, and Hiroki salad.
