From specially prepared Italian cuisine to special cones for ice cream, restaurants around the Beaver Valley have slowly begun to adapt to the growing number of those with celiac disease or gluten allergies. The gluten-free lifestyle is becoming more popular in the region as an increasing number of people are discovering they have allergies to grain-based food protein.

Adding some options for those on the diet allows families to eat safely and happily without leaving anyone out of the experience.

There are plenty of special dietary options on Burgatory's menu, including a gluten-free bun. Visitors can also choose to go completely without a bun or ask for a lettuce wrap for their sandwich. Shakes and toppings are also marked on their allergy-friendly menu.

Eat-n-Park

A staple of the greater Pittsburgh region, those on a gluten-free diet can find a special menu detailing what is safe on their menu for those with celiac disease and allergies. A gluten-free bun is available for a small charge.

The Grumpy Beaver, Bridgewater

Helpful labels appear on the menu for the gluten-free options on the menu, like the Meatballs in a Bowl, the Chichadee marinated chicken breast, the Hoofer beef tenderloin, the Italian Bowl meatballs entrée, the Cauliflower Caprese Flatbread and a Chocolate Decadence Tort.

Open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays, the store offers everything from casseroles to cupcakes. The menu is always rotating, so the best way to see what's available is to preorder online and secure your goodies early.

ShuBrew, Zelienople

The craft brewery's kitchen makes ― and almost equally important lists ― gluten-free options like the I'm Brusselin' fried Brussel sprouts, with lemon caper aioli, & parmesan, $10; Sick Beets, Bro, with balsamic marinated beets and citrus whipped goat cheese $5; and House Kimchi, $4.
