Restaurant's gourmet meals prepared by culinary students opens to the public for the fall

The Fifty-One O One student-run restaurant at Henry Ford College in Dearborn reopens on Wednesday for the fall semester. At the restaurant, students in the college's culinary arts program prepare a variety of seasonal dishes. In addition to its lunch and dinner service, Fifty-One O One will also feature special events and buffets during the semester.

This fall, the restaurant is serving lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday. Dinner is served 5:30-7:45 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Diners can choose from a frequently changing menu reflecting the season. Offerings include a selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, soups and desserts. You can also purchase beer and wine.

Tomato Tart

The restaurant's fall menu features seasonal dishes such as tomato tart with Michigan tomatoes, a beet salad and oven-roasted zucchini. There's also a variety of Neapolitan-style pizzas such as the 5101 Sausage with house-made Italian sausage, roasted peppers and onions and a classic tomato sauce. Seven entrees are featured as dinner options including Angel Hair pasta with shrimp and chiles, wood-grilled ribeye and Lake Superior whitefish.

Each entrée includes either a vegetable, salad or soup before the meal.

Prices vary but are reasonable.  The Lake Superior Whitefish served with Guanciale (an Italian cured meat), Brussels sprouts, mussels and braised leeks is $13.95.

In addition to its lunch and dinner service, Fifty-One O One will also feature special events and buffets during the semester including the upcoming Oktoberfest buffet on Oct. 18,  a holiday buffet Nov. 15 and a bake sale Nov. 21-22.
