Restaurant opening: Popular local brand opens new sandwich shop in West Palm Beach

Its walls adorned with images of mandarin oranges, the sunny new sandwich and salad shop on South Dixie Highway was to be called Pixie on Dixie. A spinoff of the popular local Field of Greens restaurants, it was to be named after a sweet mandarin variety.

But when the fast-casual, healthy foods restaurant opened Monday, Oct. 30, the name on its facade read “Field of Greens.” Just days before its debut in the former SoSo café space, Field of Greens owners changed their minds on the name.

“We changed it pretty much at the last minute. We decided we’re going back to our brand,” said co-owner Hess Musallet.

Going back to the brand means Field of Greens fans can expect the local mini-chain’s full menu, plus a few extras such as a new breakfast lox sandwich, he said.

Originally as Pixie, the restaurant was to serve a few customer favorites from the former SoSo café. While SoSo fans won’t see those dishes on the daily Field of Greens menu, there’s a chance they will when the new spot adds Sunday brunch service later this year, Musallet said.

But customers can expect to see SoSo co-founder Kye Akavia and executive chef Cesar Brea at the new restaurant as both have joined the Field of Greens team.

They can also expect all the Field of Greens fan-favorite items. Most popular among them:

The Chicken Caesar Wrap ($10.95), served in a spinach wrap with crunchy house-made croutons. “Our homemade croutons is what makes it,” said Musallet.

The Full of Life Salad ($11.95), a toss of arugula, spinach, organic quinoa, grilled chicken, roasted almonds, mint, feta, cherry tomatoes and basil-honey dressing.

The Chicken Pesto Panini ($11.95), a hot-pressed sandwich which combines grilled chicken, crispy prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, arugula, tomato, walnut pesto and lemon-garlic aioli on a French baguette.

The Almond Brothers smoothie ($9.50), a blend of blueberries, strawberries, homemade almond butter, medjool dates, almond milk and vanilla protein.
