New restaurant: 'Home of the birria' opens second Mexican restaurant on Treasure Coast

The self-proclaimed “home of the birria” has expanded with a second location on the Treasure Coast.

Cafe 772 opened Aug. 22 inside the BP gas station on Oslo Road in Vero Beach, bringing its brand of gas station gourmet to Indian River County.

Carlos Andres and Ashley Vera, who own Chef’s Table Catering, opened the first location in the Parkway Chevron on Rivergate Parkway in Port St. Lucie in 2021.

They call it the “home of the birria,” a Mexican dish of stewed meat seasoned especially with chili peppers that’s growing in popularity on menus across the world.

The restaurant serves “Latin-American street food on steroids” for breakfast and lunch. Morning options include a breakfast burrito, huevos rancheros and Southern-style buttermilk chicken and waffles.

Tacos feature a variety of meat: birria beef, seasoned grilled chicken, skirt steak or pulled pork.

Lunch entrees include a cheeseburger quesadilla, a chorizo-queso burger and voodoo fries — crispy Phantom Fries tossed in Cajun spice, topped with pulled pork, jalapeños, pickled onions, scallions and chipotle aioli.

The specialty sandwiches include the Famous Big Mouth Cuban, the Fiery Philly and the Sandwich de Pollo with marinated grilled chicken fillet.

Unlike the Port St. Lucie location, the Vero Beach location isn’t open for dinner — just yet. It currently closes at 5 p.m. for now but the owners hope to get more staff to stay open until 8 p.m.
