New restaurant: Greek restaurant pays homage to 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' with Windex

Three Greek cousins have opened an authentic Greek restaurant in Martin County.

Kevin, Brandon and Robert Jaboro opened Pylos Greek Kuzina in Palm City in the former location of Pastaio Handmade Pasta & Pizza on Southwest Martin Downs Boulevard just north of Southwest Martin Highway.

They run the business with a fourth owner, Demetrios Diamantopoulos, a family friend from Pylos, Greece. The cousins' grandparents were from Kalamata, Greece.

“All my chefs are Greek,” said Kevin Jaboro. “Everything in here is Greek.”

All things food: New restaurants, reviews, inspections & best bets

The menu features food that tastes home-cooked, he said.

It includes traditional dishes such as spanakopita ($13.50) with spinach, onions, leeks and feta cheese baked in a phyllo crust; souvlaki platters ($17.95-$24.95) served with Greek salad, housemade Greek dressing, pita, tzatziki sauce and fries; and fish specials.

The sides ($5.50) include patates ladoregano, which are oven-roasted potato wedges with lemon and herbs, and rice with spinach and leek.

However, the most popular items have been the moussaka ($19.50) with baked eggplant, tomato, potato and spiced ground beef, topped with bechamel sauce, as well as the gyros ($11.50-$16.95).

While the restaurant serves traditional lamb and beef gyros, it also puts its own twist on the Greek wrap by offering them with shrimp, pork, steak, chicken or vegetables.

The cousins and their friend loved the food industry and decided to start a restaurant after Kevin Jaboro moved from Michigan to Palm City about a year and a half ago. They opened the new restaurant with a full bar on June 14.

They even paid homage to the 2002 movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” with bottles of Windex sold at the front of the restaurant. The main character’s Greek father believed “any ailment … could be cured with Windex.” He'd spray the bottle and say, “put some Windex on it.”
