Restaurant closing: Family-owned NSB pizza restaurant says goodbye

A frequented, family owned pizza restaurant closed the doors to its New Smyrna Beach shop Friday.

Alberto’s NSB, located at 1851 State Road 44, informed customers on social media last week that it was shutting down and serving the local community for the very last time.

“The last year has been extremely tough on small businesses, especially new small businesses,” the Facebook post read.

“Product pricing, insurance and the difficulty of finding good help has weighed heavily on us and many other family owned and operated restaurants in our area. We understand fully the impact of our economy has made it very hard for families to eat out as often as they were accustomed to in the previous years.”

The beloved eatery opened its doors less than three years ago in 2021, boasting a plentiful menu of subs, sandwiches, pasta, pizza and more with selections ranging from the white and Sicilian pizzas to the veggie lovers, meat lovers and popular plain cheese pies.

While the restaurant’s closure has both shocked and saddened locals who’ve long ventured through its doors for a warm slice, it has also further showcased the harsh realities of the post pandemic restaurant industry — an increasingly difficult place to thrive, following skyrocketing food costs, staffing shortages and inflation, among various other factors.

Alberto’s Pizzeria Italian Restaurant of Edgewater to remain open

Following Alberto’s NSB’s closure, Alberto’s Pizzeria Italian Restaurant of Edgewater reassured the local community on social media that the Edgewater restaurant is sticking around.

“We want to share an update filled with warm wishes and gratitude from our extended family. Our relatives, who have lovingly served the New Smyrna Beach area with their own pizza shop, have decided to close their doors to embark on a new chapter in their lives,” the Facebook post stated.

“As they step into this new journey, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and endless appreciation for the memories they've created and shared … . We also want to take this moment to reassure our wonderful Edgewater family: Alberto's Pizzeria Italian Restaurant is here to stay!”

Alberto’s NSB went on to thank the community on social media for its years of loyalty and support, reminiscing on the relationships forged and memories made since its opening several years ago, while also eagerly awaiting a new chapter that lies ahead.

“We look forward to spending much needed time with our family and our children who have sacrificed so much in our time in business and such sacrifices don't seem worthy anymore,” the post continued. “We hope you understand.”
