Resort Report: After a 3-year absence, cats and dogs 'reign' at ARF's Bow Wow Meow Ball

WAINSCOTT, New York ― Who says cat people and dog people don't get along? Not the 300-plus guests who turned out for the long-awaited fundraiser to benefit the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) of the Hamptons.

The Bow Wow Meow Ball, absent from the Hamptons scene for three years, took place Aug. 19 at the ARF campus on Daniels Hole Road, in the brand new William P. Rayner Training Center.

The late William Rayner, a longtime Palm Beach resident, was a writer, an artist and an advocate for the protection of animals. He died in 2019.

The evening honored ARF's Forever Home Project Team and included a cocktail reception and silent auction, dinner, a live auction conducted by Jason Lamoreaux and the always heart-tugging Parade of Animals, which led to the adoption of several furries, including a bonded pair of cocker spaniels, Abigail, 15, and Leo, 12, puppy mill rescues who were the 'cover dogs' on the invitation.

The night continued with dessert and dancing to the music of Peter Duchin.

Chuck Scarborough was master of ceremonies for the evening. Committee members were Michael Franzino, Shahab Karmely, Isabelle Marino, Lisa McCarthy, Alex Papachristidis, Kathy Rayner and Ellen Scarborough.

More than 350 people attended.

Proceeds from the night assist the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, a no-kill shelter, in its mission to actively rescue cats and dogs, provide quality care and offer sanctuary until loving homes can be found.
