Eminem has had his fair share of rap beef and political feuds throughout his career, so his recent tiff with Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy comes as no surprise. The Roivant Sciences founder lobbed a joke the Detroit rapper’s way after he was handed a cease & desist for playing his music throughout his campaign.

The 38-year-old businessman rapped the lyrics to the smash hit “Lose Yourself” while at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa on Aug. 12. Marshall Mathers and his performing rights organization BMI shut that down by sending over the cease & desist letter, which was reported by Daily Mail.

A fan screenshotted the article and wrote “Eminem has turned into such a dork that he makes Vivek look cool” on Monday (Aug. 28). Ramaswamy quoted the tweet and referenced the 50-year-old wordsmith’s lyrics, writing “Will The REAL Slim Shady Please Stand Up? He didn’t just say what I think he did, did he? @Eminem” with a sweating smiley emoji. Check out the tweet below.

“I’ll respect his wishes,” Vivek Ramaswamy told MSNBC on Tuesday (Aug. 29). “But I’ll just say, will the real Slim Shady please stand up? Eminem, in his rise, used to be a guy who stood up to the establishment and said the things that the establishment didn’t want him to say. I think the fact that my political viewpoints may differ from his — I think people will change over the course of their lives.” The presidential candidate closed his statement by saying he hopes Eminem rediscovers the “renegade” within.

While the 15-time Grammy winner hindered Ramaswamy’s expression, he is a huge part of why we hear Fat Joe still making music to this day. The South Bronx rapper spoke about how Slim Shady talked him out of retirement during the Friday (Aug. 25) episode of Rap Radar with Elliott Wilson and Brian “B. Dot” Miller.

“You know, I owe Eminem so many favors,” Joey Crack said. “Like I have used my relationship with this guy to oblivion. […] You know he tried to talk me out of retirement!? I was in my mother’s house, shirt off, topless. My phone rings, it’s a number I don’t know. Thank God, I picked it up. It’s Eminem. He starts trying to convince me for an hour, ‘Don’t leave.’ He was almost depressed that I was leaving our era.” Check out the episode below.
