Report: Tony Scott was suffering from brain cancer
UPDATE: Tony Scott’s family is denying media reports that the director had inoperable brain cancer. ABC News, which first reported the story, has now backed off its initial claim, updating its web site with a post headlined, “Tony Scott Brain Cancer Report Appears in Doubt.”
Details are emerging about why ‘Top Gun’ director Tony Scott may have taken his own life Sunday. According to ABC News, an unnamed source claims that the Hollywood veteran was suffering from inoperable brain cancer. No further explanation about his alleged illness has been provided yet.
The 68-year-old Scott jumped off San Pedro’s Vincent Thomas Bridge on Sunday afternoon. The Associated Press reports that police discovered notes to loved ones in Scott’s car, as well as a suicide note in his office.
A representative for Scott has not yet responded to EW’s request for comment on this story. Last night, the director’s rep issued the following statement to EW: “I can confirm that Mr. Scott has indeed passed away. I have no further details and ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this time.”
