Raekwon Davis, a projected starter on Alabama’s defense, was injured in a shooting early Sunday morning.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, Davis, a sophomore defensive lineman, suffered a minor leg injury when he was struck by a stray bullet outside a Tuscaloosa bar. Davis told police he was standing outside of the bar when shots broke out. The 20-year-old was treated at a local hospital for the injury.

From the Tuscaloosa News:

Investigators with the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit would not identify Davis as the victim, but The Tuscaloosa News has confirmed his identity. Investigators said Davis was not targeted, but he was hit by a stray bullet.

“The victim told investigators he was standing outside of Bar 17 when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been shot in the right leg,” Homicide Unit commander Capt. Gary Hood said. “The victim was uncooperative with investigators.”

Local authorities would not name the victim, but Alabama confirmed Davis was indeed injured.

“Our concern at this time is for Raekwon and his health,” coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “While this does not appear to be a serious medical situation, Raekwon is still being evaluated.”

The 6-foot-7, 306-pound Davis played in seven games for the Tide as a true freshman in 2016 after arriving on campus as a Rivals Top 100 recruit. In those appearances, he totaled four tackles and a sack. Since then he has rocketed up the depth chart. He was a standout during the Tide’s spring game, totaling seven tackles and a sack. Davis was a projected starter for Alabama’s opener against Florida State, but that could be up in the air after Sunday’s incident.

The Tide, ranked No. 1 in the recent Associated Press Top 25, faces No. 3 FSU in Atlanta on Saturday night.
