Report: Nets F Rodions Kurucs charged with choking, beating up girlfriend

Brooklyn Nets forward Rodions Kurucs was arrested for a June attack on his then-girlfriend in his New York apartment, the New York Daily News reports.

Police told the News that a verbal argument escalated when Kurucs allegedly choked the victim with his hand before marching her to his bed, pushing her, slapping her in the face and biting her lip.

Report: Kurucs threatened to kill himself during fight

Kurucs, a 6-9, 210-pound power forward, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill himself prior to the attack, the New York Post reports.

The alleged incident happened on June 27 before the couple left on a trip to Las Vegas. The alleged victim reported the incident to police on August 27.

They have since broken up, according to the News.

Kurucs charged with misdemeanor assault

Kurucs appeared in court Tuesday for a misdemeanor assault charge and was released without bail, according to the reports. A judge issued an order of protection for the woman, ordering Kurucs to abstain from contacting her.

He was released without bail and is due for another court on appearance on Oct. 21, two days prior to the start of the Nets season.

Kurucs averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 20.5 minutes per game during his rookie campaign with the Nets last season. He is expected to play a role in Brooklyn’s rotation next season.

The Nets did not provide a comment on the issue to the Post.
