For its past eight seasons, The Voice has enlisted various A-list advisers — everyone from Stevie Nicks and Cher to Taylor Swift and Chris Martin. And Season 9 is carrying on that noble tradition, recruiting legendary femcee Missy Elliott, Creedence Clearwater Revival icon John Fogerty, country king Brad Paisley, and pop It Girl Selena Gomez.

During the Battle Rounds, onetime Rising Star judge Paisley will naturally assist fellow country cut-up Blake Shelton; Gomez will work with returning coach and fellow pop princess Gwen Stefani; John Fogerty will help out classic rock superfan Adam Levine; and Elliott will advise Team Pharrell, according to Us Weekly. Representatives for the show have declined to officially comment at this time.

The Missy Elliott news is particularly exciting — so it’s time to get ur freak on, Voice fans. Pharrell Williams and Elliott have been collaborating on new music to be released this year, and they also performed together at last year’s BET Awards, so this will be a fun and familiar partnership. Additionally, Elliott’s experience not just as a performer, but as a songwriter, record producer, and all-around hitmaker (she’s worked with Aaliyah, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, and many others), will make her a true asset to the show — and to Team Pharrell’s lucky contestants.

And of course, an appearance on a highly rated series like The Voice will surely only continue the comeback that Elliott launched at this year’s Super Bowl, when she totally stole the show from half-time headliner Katy Perry (and even from Left Shark!).

Additionally, 70-year-old Fogerty impressed on last season’s Voice finale, when he dueted with 16-year-old winner Sawyer Fredericks, so it will be interesting to see what sort of advice he can dole out to young contestants.

Gomez, who at age 23 is almost a half-century younger than Fogerty and isn't known for being an especially strong singer, has already caught some flak on Twitter regarding whether she's qualified for this role. But according to Us Weekly's source, she “was surprisingly amazing as a mentor even though she’s so young” during the recent Battle Rounds tapings and “exceeded everyone’s expectations.” The same source said Paisley was a great comfort and friend to Shelton, who returned to the Voice set only two days after announcing his divorce from Miranda Lambert.

The Voice returns to NBC on Sept. 21.
